SmartHaPSSS – “Harmonizing the Development of Complex Product-Smart-Service Systems in SMEs”
Brief description:
The SmartHaPSSS collaborative research project is based on the premise that the development of products and services is often not coordinated. Furthermore, a focus on sustainability is frequently lacking. The project aims to align the individual activities involved in developing complex product-service systems within SMEs while simultaneously integrating a sustainability perspective. Together, the research team aims to develop innovative business models in which development processes are closely interlinked, with a particular focus on sustainability aspects for products and services.
From a sustainability perspective, the innovation management of smart product-service systems presents a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Therefore, we are addressing the following questions, among others, in the project:
What are the aspects and actors particularly relevant to sustainability in the innovation process of smart product-service systems?
How can products and services be made as durable and resource-efficient as possible?
What requirements must product-service system innovations meet in order to be considered sustainable?
We address these and other real-world challenges and develop appropriate concepts and tools. The methods we develop are tested and refined in collaboration with our industry partners.

SmartHaPSSS is a collaborative project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the program “Innovations for the Production, Services, and Work of Tomorrow” and managed by the Project Management Agency Karlsruhe.
